HAMMOND’S FERRY TO HOST ANNUAL RIVER DAYS CELEBRATION STARTING NOVMBER 10TH IN CONJUNCTION WITH
2007 HEAD OF THE SOUTH REGATTA
Day-long rowing event will commence at Hammond’s Ferry site on Savannah River

North Augusta, SC…Hammond’s Ferry, the new mixed-use Traditional Neighborhood community in North Augusta, will host River Days, a two-day, fun-filled event on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th featuring live music, food, children’s activities, local artists, rowing demonstrations, bicycle demonstrations, health screenings and house tours. Of special interest will be musical performances by Patrick Blanchard and Tara Scheyer at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM respectively on Saturday. Both are well-regarded in the Augusta area, and Ms. Scheyer was voted by Augusta Magazine as “Best Female Singer in Augusta” for 2005 and 2006.

River Days Hours: Saturday, November 10, 2007 – 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Sunday, November 11, 2007 – 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The Head of the South Regatta will be run on November 10th along a 5,000 meter (approximately 3-miles) stretch of the scenic Savannah River, commencing at the Hammond’s Ferry site. The first race starts at 8:15 AM and the last race is scheduled for 4:45 PM. The Hammond’s Ferry site will provide an exceptional vantage point for watching the Regatta while enjoying the River Days festivities.

On both Saturday and Sunday, personalized tours will be provided of the beautiful houses constructed by the Hammond’s Ferry Builders’ Guild. Many have been professionally decorated to provide visitors with creative ideas about
details, finishes, furniture arrangements and furnishings. Members of the Builders’ Guild and Hammond’s Ferry’s sales professionals will be on hand to point out the special features of the homes.

On Saturday, November 10th, The Head of the South Regatta races will proceed downstream from the starting line near Hammond’s Ferry to the finish line near the Augusta Rowing Club Boathouse. The Regatta, now into its 11th year, is one of the great sports and community traditions of the Augusta/ North Augusta region. Nearly 2000 competing members, coaches and spectators are expected to participate. The race will give viewers a first-hand look and inside perspective into one of the oldest and most challenging sports in history, dating back to the first century BC. The first rowing competition in Augusta was held 170 years ago on the same stretch of the Savannah River. The race course is 5,000 meters in length. A representative of the Augusta Rowing Club will be on site to answer questions on the fine points of rowing and the Regatta.

N. Turner Simkins, Project Director for Hammond’s Ferry, states, “We’re proud that Hammond’s Ferry is the starting point for the Regatta. It seems particularly appropriate inasmuch as our community represents the realization of James U. Jackson’s vision of over 100 years ago to connect the City of North Augusta to the Savannah River.”

Hammond’s Ferry incorporates the wonderful planning features and classic architecture of the historic American communities that we all cherish, together with sustainable design technologies. The development team has gone to great lengths to design a town plan that actually improves the natural resources of the area. Hammond’s Ferry is a public/private partnership between LeylandAlliance, and the City of North Augusta.
