Classic Food, Classic Place
For more than 40 years now, the SNO-CAP Drive-In, located just a couple blocks north of Hammond's Ferry, has served up cherry Cokes, frosty malts, loaded dogs and juicy burgers. A North Augusta institution, SNO-CAP is a lively crowded place, especially during one of the cruise-ins, when members of different car clubs drive in for a good, old-fashioned non-alcoholic drink served in a frosted glass mug and a chance to peruse one another's souped-up vehicles or motorcycles; on "Bike Night" more than 150 motorcycles crowd the parking lot.
The drive-in is popular with other members of the community as well; the seven booths and 12 barstools are usually full, as are the picnic tables outside. Sports teams come for a meal after their practice. People of all ages hold their birthday parties beneath the SNO-CAP's broad and stylish awnings. And this year, the drive-in is hosting two middle school dances under the awnings; students will dash in for a quick drink between dance sets.
"We consider ourselves an important part of the neighborhood," Rachel Franklin adds. "We offer a safe place for the kids and try to create a family setting—a place where we would feel comfortable sending our own kids. We are excited about continuing the tradition."
